Silverlight Toolkit September 2011 Overview

This is the 8th and newest release of the toolkit targeting the Silverlight 5 RC. New to this release are some controls targeting Silverlight 5's new 3D features. For more information on these 3D extensions, please check out *David Catuhe's blog entry on the topic*.

Note: You must install XNA Studio in order to use the new Silverlight 3D templates. Otherwise the new templates will not show up.

Components in the Silverlight 5 Toolkit

The Silverlight Toolkit defines four Quality Bands that describe the stability and finish-level of each component. Below is a summary of where the components currently in the Silverlight Toolkit fall within the quality bands.
  • Infrastructure and Development Tools in the Experimental Quality Band
    • Visual Studio unit test project and item templates
    • Silverlight Unit Test Framework and Visual Studio unit test metadata for Silverlight
    • Silverlight test automation for automating unit test runs in the web browser
    • DefaultStyleTask for large control library development

please put some effort into maturing "Drag and Drop support for items controls" it has been in the "experimental" stage for long enough and alot of users and developers will be very happy for doing so

Please fix the memoryleaks in contextmenu and dragdroptarget before releasing it! Solutions for the problems are in the issues!

Just in case anyone else -- coming from an XNA background -- is banging their head against the wall trying to figure out why installing this doesn't allow you to create a Silverlight 3D application: You need to install Microsoft Silverlight 5 RC Tools for Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 first: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=27220

You have to install XNA Game Studio 4 first

I can't get it work with 2010 Express nor 2011. C# Express cannot open SilverLight Project then Web Developer Express And 2011 Dev Preview cannot open XNA project. So this project cannot work in any of these. I don't want to admit that XNA is dead. Can you do something with this problem?
