Silverlight Toolkit December 2011 Overview

This is the 9th and newest release of the toolkit targeting the Silverlight 5. New to this release are some controls targeting Silverlight 5's new 3D features. For more information on these 3D extensions, please check out David Catuhe's blog entry on the topic.

If you have previously installed the Silverlight 5 September 2011 toolkit, please make sure to uninstall before installing the December 2011 toolkit.

Note: You must install XNA Studio in order to use the new Silverlight 3D templates. Otherwise the new templates will not show up.

Components in the Silverlight 5 Toolkit

The Silverlight Toolkit defines four Quality Bands that describe the stability and finish-level of each component. Below is a summary of where the components currently in the Silverlight Toolkit fall within the quality bands.
  • Infrastructure and Development Tools in the Experimental Quality Band
    • Visual Studio unit test project and item templates
    • Silverlight Unit Test Framework and Visual Studio unit test metadata for Silverlight
    • Silverlight test automation for automating unit test runs in the web browser
    • DefaultStyleTask for large control library development

Nice to see some new stuff added. Can we have the toolkit on NuGet (with .extmap files!) like we have for the Silverlight 4 Toolkit please?

The Toolkit is a most have even today. Very good job on it. Thank you very much Well, I agreed that Silverlight is discontinued but it shouldn't be since it became vital for LOB and many companies depend on it today. Hope for a reconsideration from Microsoft to go on with the technology. At least changing the MODERN UI to have all the great things that made Silverlight what it is today

Well, as for December 2011 it was OK, but Silverlight become orphan as major efforts were moved by Microsoft to HTML5. SL5 lack some polishing, fine tuning, better grained exception handling. Shortly, now, in mid 2013, there are still need for SP but again, unlikely it going to happen. Not Codeplex fault, it become somewhat not safe to bet on Microsoft technology

Hi.. How I included this toolkit in Visual Studio 2012? Because, the project make in VS 2010 with this toolkit it's ok, but when I open the same project in VS 2012, the references are broken! Thanks.

When can we expect this to be NuGet?

Templates do not show up and cannot create XNA Content projects or see them in the samples, many others have the same issue: Would also be helpful to list the required items (more than XNA game studio is needed)

Hi! Thank for updating this project! I've two questions / related to the december release> - Will you continue the development of TransitioningContentControl? Will you change it's quality band in the near future? - Could you upload the december release in a zip as well? (like you did in case of former releases)
